No. The app works without any login or account. You can tap any book in the "Try one of these" carousel on the home screen to see a complete analysis right away.
Only if you want to analyze books beyond the bundled examples. The app ships with several pre-analyzed books (Atomic Habits, Think and Grow Rich, and more) that work offline. To analyze any other book by title, you can optionally add your own OpenAI API key in Settings — it is stored only in your device's Keychain and is never shared with the developer.
Sign in at platform.openai.com/api-keys and tap "Create new secret key." Copy the key, then in Book2Action open Settings, paste it in the OpenAI API key field, and tap Save.
Nothing leaves your device except the book title you search for, which is sent to OpenAI (if you provided a key) and OpenLibrary (for cover images and metadata). The developer does not collect analytics, ads, or personal information. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Try selecting the book from the suggestion dropdown that appears as you type — that lets the app pull verified metadata from OpenLibrary so the analysis is grounded in real data. Including the author name (e.g. "Atomic Habits by James Clear") also improves accuracy for books that share a title with other works.
Open any book's result screen, tap the menu in the top-right corner, and choose "Export PDF." You can then save the PDF or share it through the iOS share sheet.
